Fitness Classes


Fitness Classes are open to students and employees and are free of charge. Most classes run until the end of the semester. Feel free to attend when ever it is convenient for you. No Need to register, except for Spinning, Fly Fishing 101 and Self Defense. These classes do not count toward P.E credit.

MID DAY MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Mindfulness Meditation is a simple and scientifically backed method for regulating the nervous system and cultivating the qualities that help us manage the complexities of modern living. Now more than ever, the ability to tap into peace and stability from within and make our minds an ally has never been more valuable. Co-Movement is the swiss army knife for health, energy, strength and flexibility. You’ll see movement and health through a different lens. All levels are welcome. Beginners will find the class enjoyable but yet challenging, advanced abilities will find this class a great recovery session and a chance to learn new methods to enhance physical abilities. Step and Sculpt

Meets Every Monday in the Fitness Center Multi Purpose Room beginning January 20.
Instructor: Lisa Magnarelli

Add some variety to your workout by using a weighted bar, hand weights and step aerobics to alternate strength training and cardio routines. Class begins at 12:10 and ends at 12:55, great for employees who are crunched for time. Class ends with toning, abs and stretch. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged to try this class.

Yoga

12-1 p.m.
Meets every Tuesday and Thursday in the Fitness Center Dance Studio beginning January 21.

T’ai Chi Chu’an

12-1 p.m.
Meets Every Thursday in the Fitness Center Multi Purpose Room Not available this semester.
Instructor: John Bulson

T’ai Chi Chu’an is an ancient, Chinese martial art and health practice that is renowned as a rejuvenator of fitness and vitality. It is a series of exercises and slow, low impact movements, or forms, that flow one into the other and gently take your joints through a full range of motion. T’ai Chi Chu’an improves concentration, breath control, balance, and muscle relaxation. The smooth, slow movements help instill physical confidence, reduce stress, and enhance posture and coordination. In addition, it helps tone muscles in the lower body, especially the thighs, buttocks and calves. T’ai Chi Chu’an can be practiced by everyone. All that’s needed for practice are comfortable shoes and clothing.

H.I.I.T

Learn to Swim Better

12-2 p.m. (Come and as your schedule permits)
Meets every Wednesday in the Bristol Pool beginning January 22.
Instructor: Molly Haberbusch

If you are looking to improve your swimming, this class is for you! This class will meet the specific needs and goals of all participants; from those with minimal experience to the advanced swimmer looking for a workout and stroke refinement. Instruction will focus on the individual and/or group needs depending on interests and ability levels.

Power Yoga

4:30-5:30 p.m.
Meets Tuesday and Thursday in the Fitness Center Multi Purpose Room beginning January 21.
Instructor: Susie Hamilton

What to expect in power yoga:

  • Sequencing with vinyasa flow as well as sustained poses.
  • Opportunities to modify poses to suit your level.
  • A great workout.
  • Guided meditation.

Please bring a yoga mat, small towel and water.

Fly Fishing 101

4-5:30 p.m.  
Meets every Thursday in the Fitness Center Lounge beginning in April.

The premise of the Fly Fishing 101 course is to introduce people who have NEVER fly fished before to new and very exciting horizons. Students will learn everything from casting, tying flies, basic entomology, fly line management, reading water, fishing etiquette, and more. Upon completion, students will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to fish most streams and small lakes with confidence. A fishing license is required for this class. It can be purchased from the Town Clerk in the village of Clinton. The cost is twenty five dollars, but you must show your college ID for this rate. The license is good for one year from the date of purchase. Weather permitting, we will try to make sure that everyone fishes during the semester that the course is taken. [Beginners only please]

Zumba

4:30-5:30 p.m.
Every Wednesday in the fitness center Multi Purpose Room beginning January 22.

Instructor: LeeAnn McCoy

Looking for a fun and exciting work out? Then join LeeAnn McCoy and her Zumba class for a dance fitness party like no other! Zumba combines cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. It mixes low-intensity and high-intensity moves to create an interval-style, calorie-burning total body workout. Super effective and super fun for Every Body, it’s like exercise in disguise!

A movement class designed for all ages to improve mobility, coordination, balance, and strength through custom and progressive movement patterns. Sore knees, back or shoulders? Bored of your normal routine? Our method has been used successfully for 10 years helping hundreds of clients move and feel better.

Self Defense

Instructor: Clifford Crandall/Eric Stalloch

This four-week course on health, awareness, and personal safety will improve
cardiovascular fitness, muscular toning, balance, and endurance while increasing your
awareness and self-defense skills. Classes will include stretching, combination drills,
kicks, punches, and self-defense techniques for scenarios including grabs, punches, knife
assaults, pistol assaults, and long gun assaults.

Spinning

5-6 p.m.  Please register Here: Spinning Class
Meets every Monday and Wednesday in the fitness center Mezzanine beginning January 20.

Spin Class is a high energy 45 minute indoor cycling class led by a motivating instructor and accompanied by the instructor's unique playlist of powerful and energizing music. This class is challenging, fun, and one of the best ways to improve cardiovascular fitness while burning lots of calories. Because this is low impact it is suitable for most people, and the class can accommodate all ability levels.
